I have a 16 yr old daughter, who is very bright and always been hyper aware of details, observations, about people, places, characters and deep meaning in movies that typical kids her age don’t pick up on. Has been like this all her life. Since puberty it’s been more strong to where she feels she can’t ever “turn her brain off” to go to bed at night, to try and calm down, and so gets easily overwhelmed with frustration, anger and aggressiveness (not physical) and defensiveness. Leans towards an “optimistic” type of mentality. She is always in an hyper state, every emotion she feels is hyper, every action can even be that also. She is a VERY deep thinker and sees and knows the deeper side of everything she has ever been apart of, even when she doesn’t want to be. Meaning she never was just the kid watching a cartoon, she saw into the psychology of the dark character and it would scare her, or concern her…she just wants to “enjoy” simple things that she does with out always having her mind racing a million miles a minute as she puts it.

We are trying to find a way to get her assessed to see what services could benefit her in learning how to calm her self down, change the cognitive brain direction of thoughts into something constructive and helpful. She has no diagnosis but we just don’t know where to start to try and get her in the right direction of what type of help she may benefit from. Any suggestions on how she can get assessed, or where and how to fill out a questionnaire for us(her parents) and/or her so we can have any kind of direction.
    Thanks!

    Hi farmwife,
Thank you so much for posting. Your daughter sounds like an amazingly lovely person and your love for her shines through your words!
Finding an assessment and starting a process to support her with emotional regulation definitely sounds helpful.
One way to help you navigate those steps is to start with some basics about you guys, such as the county you live in and type of insurance etc etc.
We at Reach Out Oregon will be so happy to help you get started. We are all parents just like you, raising kids with complex needs, so we get how it feels. And we’ve all navigated mental health and other systems in our journeys helping our kids.
Please call us anytime from noon to 7 pm Monday to Friday, 1-833-732-2467. That will give us a chance to match ideas with your family.
