ParticipantHi All –
I am just starting to look at what is available for families for the upcoming holiday season. Does anyone what agencies or how to get some help with Thanksgiving dinner and gifts for my children? It would be great if we could start a list maybe of groups or people and where they are. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.November 5, 2020 at 12:20 pm #21164pineapple_shortcake

Toys for Tots: https://eugene-or.toysfortots.org/local-coordinator-sites/lco-sites/default.aspx?nPageID=100&nPreviewInd=200Eugene and Lane County Salvation Army assistance programs.
While financial assistance is limited in Eugene Oregon, the Salvation Army will do its best to meet any needs and provide other support as well. Most of the resources administered are part of the Family Services program. Some of what may be available is below. The first category may be what is considered more basic needs. This can include emergency food boxes, free or low cost school supplies, coats, and Christmas toys for kids during the holidays. The objective of the Salvation Army and their Family Service’s is to reach out and meet people at their point of need. This can give them hope for both today and tomorrow.
The free Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets and meals are distributed to the community. This will take place very close to the holiday itself. Children and their families can look into Christmas Toy Assistance from resources such as Angel Tree or Adopt a Family. If those two options do not work, then another is the free Holiday Food Boxes, which will have the food and grocery items that are most associated with the holidays. As funding allows, and if you meet qualifications, then other immediate needs may be fulfilled by the organization. Call (503) 585-6688. Note that the Christmas programs do not usually open up until November.
As indicated, financial aid is very limited. When possible though, individuals may be able to receive money for utilities, rent, and/or security deposits. Some medical needs, such as prescriptions, may be met as well.
Water and more general utility bill assistance may be offered by the Salvation Army in partnership with the city of Eugene. Every month, residents from the community struggle to pay their energy bills. Thousands of people in Lane County Oregon face a disconnection of their water or power every year. The Salvation Army and its partners will do their best to pay out temporary energy and water assistance. The exact amount and terms will vary by center.
