Know Your Parental Rights
As a parent or caregiver, you deserve to understand your rights when your child is receiving mental health care in Oregon. This section explains what you can expect in the Emergency Department, what questions you’re allowed to ask, and what choices you can make about your child’s care. Oregon law gives parents important protections, including the right to clear communication, the right to speak up if something doesn’t feel safe, and the right to request reviews or changes to care plans. These pages will help you know what you are legally allowed to do, how to advocate for your child, and how to feel more confident when navigating a system that can feel overwhelming or confusing. You do not have to figure this out alone—your voice matters, and your rights are real.
