Know Your Rights and Care Process

As a parent or caregiver, you have the right to understand your rights when your youth is receiving mental health care in Oregon. This section explains what you can expect in the Emergency Room, what questions to ask, and what choices you can make about your youth’s care.

Oregon law gives parents important protections. These include the right to clear information, the right to speak up if something does not feel safe, and the right to ask for a review or change to a care plan.

You do not have to figure this out alone. Your voice matters, and your rights matter.
