In Path of Exile 3.27, the graft skill Heart of Flame has quickly become one of the strongest defensive tools available, thanks to its mix of damage absorption and reactive offense. It’s part of the new graft system introduced in the Keepers of the Flame expansion, which adds special skills through implantable gear.

Heart of Flame works like a guard skill. The skill has a one-second cast time and a twenty-second cooldown, but its buff duration grows with levels, letting it stay active for a big part of a fight. At higher levels it can absorb massive amounts of damage, similar to Molten Shell, and applies that protection before life or energy shield are touched. When the shield finally collapses, the explosion of projectiles deals strong fire damage in a wide area, which helps clear packs and adds extra pressure during boss encounters.

What makes Heart of Flame especially appealing is how its uptime can be pushed even further with cooldown reduction and duration-boosting modifiers found on graft gear. With the right implant upgrades, players can get the buff to last close to twelve seconds or bring the cooldown down enough to keep it up almost all the time. This consistency has made it a core defensive layer for many builds that need protection against sudden spikes of damage, turning it from a niche option into a main part of endgame setups.

The skill also plays well with several ascendancies and passive nodes. Trickster’s Heartstopper notable, for example, lines up perfectly with its defensive nature, and strength-stacking builds such as Replica Alberon’s Warpath users enjoy combining Heart of Flame’s survivability with their high chaos damage. The fiery nova pairs naturally with ignite and burn mechanics, giving fire-based or hybrid builds another way to spread damage quickly. Even bleed or impale characters get plenty of value out of the extra defense while still benefiting from the area burst.

Heart of Flame’s damage isn’t just a bonus—it scales with levels and hits multiple enemies thanks to the expanding radius around the player. Its damage keeps up well as characters progress deeper into the league, making it useful for both mapping and bosses. The combination of absorbing huge hits and then instantly retaliating creates a satisfying flow, appealing to players who enjoy a reactive style of play where big moments happen naturally during combat.

The community has embraced Heart of Flame as one of the standout graft skills in 3.27. Players appreciate that it brings something fresh to the defensive meta while still fitting naturally into many builds. It offers meaningful customization through graft crafting and implant modifiers, which has helped cement it as a common recommendation in guides and tier lists this league.

Heart of Flame represents a smart evolution of guard-style mechanics, blending survivability and damage in a way that feels both impactful and fun to use. As one of the strongest graft skills in the Keepers of the Flame expansion, it has already earned a spot as a go-to choice for players wanting a reliable, reactive defensive layer in Path of Exile 3.27.
