I’ve noticed that on a lot of construction projects, fire safety is often discussed very late in the process. Most of the focus goes on structure, finishes, and timelines, but things like firestopping sometimes don’t get enough attention until inspections start.

From what I’ve seen, this can cause delays and unexpected cost increases, especially when walls and penetrations are already done and then need rework. Planning fire protection early seems to make a big difference, not just for compliance but also for overall budgeting.

This is where firestopping estimating can actually help contractors and project managers understand the real scope of work upfront instead of guessing or leaving it to the last stage. Accurate estimates make it easier to plan materials, labour, and avoid last-minute surprises.

Curious to know how others handle fire safety planning on their projects. Do you usually estimate it early, or deal with it closer to inspections?
